Anita Carson

With 10 years of experience in the classroom, including seven years as an educator in Polk County schools, Anita Carson is experienced in all things education. Her track record shows an unwavering dedication to the success of every student, educator, and school in the district.

Carson earned her degree in Middle Grades Education from Kennesaw State University with a specialization in English and History, and holds certifications in Elementary Education, English, General Science, Social Science, and K-12 Reading. From substitute, to paraeducator, to teacher, to department head, Carson has passionately invested her entire career in education.

Working in classrooms for the last decade, she knows what it takes for students and educators to be successful. Carson began as a substitute teacher fresh out of college, and soon transitioned into a paraeducator role where she got to work with students and teachers across several classrooms. As a paraeducator, Carson had the opportunity to learn from a range of educators, who each used their own unique styles and creativity to reach students. It also allowed her to build relationships with students and find her own voice and style as an educator.

Most recently, Carson has been a teacher in Polk County for the last seven years, with four years at Boone Middle School and three years at Lake Alfred Polytech Academy. Carson taught 8th grade English/Language Arts at Boone, and was the department head for her content area. She also acted as the Title 1 facilitator, Community Involvement Coordinator, School Advisory Council Chair, as well as Reading Interventionist.

After four years teaching and volunteering at Boone, Carson transitioned to Lake Alfred Polytech Academy where she now teaches 6th grade Science. At LAPA Carson is part of the Model Instructional Classroom program and integrates technology instruction into her science classroom through the use of a dedicated iPad cart.

Outside the classroom, Carson has continuously held leadership roles inside and outside of the Polk County School District, including positions as Polk Education Association School Representative, Membership Committee Chair for Polk Education Association, Grade Level Chair, School Advisory Council Chair, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Team Chair, Mentor Teacher, and more. Her track record shows, without a doubt, that Carson cares.
